Only physical gender is genetically determined (but not quite as simply as being XX or XY). Sexual orientation and gender identity are set during fetal development, not at conception. There is no Gene to select for or against.

Also, purely alternative communities are by nature unsustainable at the scale suggested in the story. Social factors might indeed create an externally alternative intergenerational community, but without dramatic intervention in utero, the great majority of children born to the community would be more or less traditionally aligned in the three areas of sexuality, whatever the nature and strength of their parents’ alignment.

My use of the term Q-LDS for what I should have called LG-LDS or something is puzzling to me now. I remember research7ing the term “queer” and thinking it fit, but maybe I was tired that day–or there actually was some sort of context to make it appropriate. In any case, it’s negotiable.
